2 things:
one:

It is so snowy here! It's been snowing since we woke up at 10 AM! And above is what it already looked like before we went to bed last night. We are snowed in. I am relearning how to knit. Does anyone have a good online tutorial to make a hat? A tam or beanie style, please.

I got a lookbook. It turns out all you have to do is apply. They accepted me in a matter of hours. It is so, so, so horribly addicting. Worse than livejournal.

I am in the process of updating my Netflix queue and would love some suggestions. Here is my current queue, to give you an idea of what I like:
The Manitou should be in my mailbox today... and then....
1) Marie Antoinette (the new one, I never saw it) 2) Daisies (per one of your suggestions!) 3) Freaks (Anton's favorite movie, 1920s silent film) 4) Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (because Harrison Ford will always be hot) 5) The Squid and the Whale 6) Frida (also never saw this, can you believe it?) 7) The Departed 8) The Triplets of Belleville 9) Delicatessen
Help me! In the cold Chicago winter, I have a feeling I'll be spending more time inside curled up with my dog, my boyfriend, and a movie instead of out running around from bar to bar.

Hey Everyone,
I am really nerdy and excited about this because Dan Savage is my obsession and has been for years and years....
My question is on the latest Savage Love podcast!!!!
If you are curious to hear my voice, download episode #114 from 12/23/08. My question is the one about the pervy dude calling me at work at the apparel store (American Apparel, that is).
You can listen or download here: http://podcasts.thestranger.com/savagelove/
Even if you don't care about me, his show is really good so you should download it just because.
Anyway, I love him. My question is a bit boring, I know, but dude, I love Dan Savage.
Okay, that's it.
xoxo Emily

Guys?! I didn't know who Erin Wasson was until about 2 minutes ago. I mean, I knew she was someone fashion-related because I kept seeing her name everywhere and everyone is like OMG Erin Wasson but I just never bothered to look into it. She is not that great. I mean, there are way better dressers. I don't understand all these fashion influences. Like this chick, Erin Wasson. And Agyness Deyn (sp?). I mean, Agyness, I guess I sort of get, she is androgynous, cool, we need a Grace Jones for the 21st century, but I don't know. Neither of them is so amazingly well-dressed or innovative. I mean, go to a hipster hangout and you see them everywhere. And I mean we could play the chicken-egg game, but why?
I mean, not that the current celebs whose style I admire are original at all. Nicole Richie is cute, Michelle Williams and MK Olsen both have their moments. Um but I really like regular people.

It's not that I even want to copy her. It's that she does all this DIY which is totally inspiring.

I got Anton this print for xmas:

I wish I could afford the original. But a giclee print was the best I could do.
It is by a local artist named Ian Shults. He is my new favorite artist.
http://www.ianshults.com/paintings.htm
I wanted this print of this Nazi looking guy with a naked woman on a chain/leash of diamonds, but um, it didn't translate well, the original was amazing, breathaking, but the print just looked blurry. It was part of this series i think:

Anyway, pretty great, I think he will like it, maybe it is a selfish gift because it will be hanging in our home, but he was really into it when we saw it at the fair (that Blue Genie thing I posted about, we ended up going yesterday morning before work). When I get back to Chicago I want to buy an actual painting, when I have $ again.
Okay, that is all lovies.

A small representation of the sparkley things I've acquired in the last month or so.
I have had a migraine for 24 hours. Yesterday was my only day off this week (my choice, I am working overtime) and I had a migraine and did not get to go to this:

All I did, literally, was lay in bed and take a few hot showers and throw up everything I tried to eat or drink. Imagine your worst hangover ever, multiply by 30 and there you have it.
I will try to go to the craft thing next Tuesday, I guess, but I should be packing.
Anyway, I wanted to get cool gifts for everyone (like Anton't family, who will be our hosts for xmas) and on the way I wanted to go by Buffalo Exchange and sell all of the American Apparel that I just will not wear outside of working there. But of course, I'll keep all my black leggings and black dresses and t-shirts and unitards which will come in handy in civillian, non-AA life.
I am deeply stressed out, it is in my shoulders and my back, which is probably where that headache/migraine/nausea came from.
I couldn't even read a book or watch TV that is how bad it was.
Oh, also, I got Tyson an elf costume, he looks amazing and doesn't hate it too much, I will post images soon.
xo.

Hello my darlings,
Okay I am going to write a lot about myself again, I think I'll do that forever.
1) I got some new hosiery, which if you don't know is my favorite thing ever. I got these 2 things:
 But mine are Royal Blue.
 And these in black.
For only $11.91 which is the only thing I don't hate about working there. They should be $31 plus tax, you know. Yay yay yay yay.
Okay now you fashionable and/or practical dears, tell me which one is better, which should I get for the Chicago winter:
 Winter weight leggings in black
Men's baby rib long underwear (these have a low low low rise which I like for wearing under things)
Or this Henley Dress, also in black of course. I don't know.
Okay this will stop being a lame post startiiiiiiing now.
I have a twitter: www.twitter.com/emilyneedham
If you have it or ever get it we can tweet tweet at each other all day and all night.
If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life it would be chips and salsa, but not from home, from a restaurant. Either that or vegetarian tortilla soup. I will share with you my Vegetarian Tortilla Soup recipe:
1 packet vegetarian soup mix (Knorr brand is best) 1 serrano pepper (habanero or jalapeno work too) Cumin to taste 1 can tomato and green chiles (Rotel or generic) Fresh Cilantro (as a garnish) 1 avocado Shredded Cheese Fried tortillas or pre-made tortilla chips
Mix the first 4 things in a pot and cook until it is really hot. Then pour it in a bowl. Then put the cheese and avocado and tortillas on it. Add cilantro if you love it. Mmmm. You can even make this vegan if you use a vegan base and don't add cheese and use a lard-free tortilla or chip. Or you could even add chicken if you like chicken. It makes me feel really warm for like 4 hours after I eat it. I always put a ton of spiciness in mine but if you don't like spicy forego the pepper.
I am like fucking Rachel Ray.
Later I will tell you more of my meals that I eat all the time, including stuffed shells, chili, super amazing tacos and other stuff. All are vegetarian, some can be vegan.
Okay I love you. My dog says he loves you too. Bye!

Dear Livejournal,
I am really broke. I sold some clothing at Buffalo Exchange today. I got $38. The girl at the counter was "training" this dude to be a "buyer" and she was really, really snotty and fake and bad at training and didn't buy some totally awesome shit that I had. So my plan is to go back a different day when there is no training and when that sucky girl is not there and sell it. I do that all the time and they always buy stuff they passed on. Like almost always. Anton and I do that shit endlessly. Mmm hmm.
Anyway. I am trying to buy/wear less American Apparel unless it's a necessary basic (leggings, t-shirts, etc.) and up my collection of vintage/second hand clothing to the level it used to be. There was a day in my life when I'd die if I had to wear a shirt from a mall store. Now, with options like AA, H&M, even F21 I can't hate all mass-produced shit, but I do need to get my uniqueness back. Remember when I wore heels and mini skirts and knee socks and too much black eyeliner every day? I need to get there again. It will be good to move back to Chicago, go back to Target, make money and spend it all on gas to Racine to thrift.
I have a dog now. He is a pug and he's 8 and we adopted him. He is old and sweet and perfect if not slightly annoying when he snores in his sleep but that's the only complaint, really.
He has a myspace because he is amazing: www.myspace.com/tysongodzillarainbo

Yeah, I'm one of those assholes who is going to write about their dog now.
I wish that I loved Austin. I wish it was the mecca of cool it's supposed to be. They have nothing here that I can't have in Chicago, I mean, nothing that I want.
I am nervous about driving a moving van back to Chicago, did you know that? I hate driving anyway, especially long distances, especially since we're not planning on stopping overnight so we can have new years with Adam and some other friends.
Okay I am tired of writing this now.
Love you, E

I love living in my apartment with all of the groceries that I want to eat around me.
First I tried to replicate the gouda mac and cheese that they serve at the Handlebar (http://www.handlebarchicago.com/) which is the greatest thing in the world. Well, I made a roux and then used half and half (can't do cream, it's too thick for me) and then added the gouda and.... it didn't melt. Like at all. I knew it wasn't going to be like using cheddar or even parm/reg but it was too sweet. I added a little dijon to try to adjust, but I used too much and... now it tastes like mustardcream sauce. I'll keep working on it, though, I'll figure it out... another recipe I read after the fact wanted me to add the gouda to the roux, but I dunno, I've always added in cheese after the sauce base was made. What do you think?
Now I am eating a really satsifying lunch.

Sourdough bread with avocado, dijon, Irish white cheese sandwich. Baby heirloom tomatoes with homemade soy-ginger dressing.

It is so nice to not live with a bunch of fucking meat eaters (my family) that like to grill and fry and boil and broil and bake all of this heavy meaty food.
